Safety & Quality

Last updated: March 2026

1. Safety Commitment

CasDrive places safety as the highest priority in all research and design work. A core value proposition of personal spacecraft is making space travel safely accessible to ordinary people — which means safety standards must far exceed current aerospace industry benchmarks.

2. Design Safety Principles

  • Redundancy — All critical systems employ multiple redundancy. No single failure may lead to catastrophic consequences
  • Graceful degradation — Systems must degrade safely in failure modes rather than fail completely
  • Non-professional operation — Spacecraft must be suitable for operation by people without astronaut training, with correspondingly increased safety margins
  • Autonomous emergency response — Emergency handling capability independent of ground control centers

3. Seven Safety Domains

DomainFocus Areas
Launch SafetyStructural integrity during ascent, propulsion reliability, escape systems
Radiation ProtectionShielding from cosmic rays and solar particle events, especially for extended flights
Life SupportClosed-loop reliability of oxygen, temperature, pressure, water recycling, waste management
Re-entry SafetyThermal protection systems, deceleration mechanisms, landing precision
Structural IntegrityMicrometeorite protection, thermal cycle fatigue, seal integrity
Human FactorsIntuitive control interfaces, g-force tolerance, psychological support
Emergency ResponseFault detection and autonomous handling, emergency return, search and rescue coordination

4. Quality Management

  • Research outputs undergo internal peer review
  • Design parameters use conservative engineering margins
  • All calculation and simulation source data is archived for traceability
  • Open publication for external academic community review

5. Compliance Framework

We reference the following standards and regulatory frameworks:

  • PRC Civil Aviation Law and space-related regulations
  • ICAO safety standards (applicable to atmospheric phases)
  • ISO 14620 Space systems safety requirements
  • NASA-STD-8719 Safety Standard (as design reference)

6. Incident Reporting

Upon entering prototype and testing phases, all safety incidents will be thoroughly documented, investigated, and findings published openly to promote industry-wide safety improvement.
